ABOUT THE AUTHOR

It was an incredible, almost unbelievable tragedy and also the Arizona story of the year in 1958. Cathy, as a member of one of the families was caught up in this event. Her twelve year old brother was one of the survivors and she had just turned 15 at the time.  Being so close to the event she knew there were missing pieces that had not seen print and she set out to add to the historical account.  On the way she discovered many other pieces that enhanced the dynamic and also helped solve some of the lingering mysteries behind the disappearance of these Tucson children.

The reporters at the time wrote an award winning account, but they did not climb the trails nor did they investigate the other side of the mountain to interview many of the returning searchers. There wasn’t the time or the resources to do so then.  Fifty years later, Cathy had the time and the desire and went out to complete the story. What she found blew her away and inevitably it will do the same for her readers. Although apologizing for being a no-name author, she brings a passion and inquisitiveness that other authors could not have achieved.

Shortly after the tragedy and inspired by an intense desire to search, she joined the Civil Air Patrol. Other family members as well as many of the searchers also joined rescue organizations.  The tragedy caused the creation of the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, an organization that has literally saved hundreds of lives in the last half century.

Cathy, along with most of the participants, has remained haunted by the story all of her life.
